Preschool
Summit Schools’ Preschool Program offers a balanced and structured part-time school experience for children ages three through five years. The children take part in developmentally appropriate activities including beginning reading and math skills, as well as science, social skills, and technology. A multi-sensory, child-centered approach is used so children have opportunities to learn auditorally, visually, and through hands-on projects and activities. Play and social interactions are an integral part of the Preschool Program through opportunities such as center time and snack time. Responsibility is taught through the daily assignment of classroom jobs. Most important of all, our preschoolers absolutely love coming to school and learning.
Why is Summit Preschool Special?
- Class sizes are limited to 16 students with a teacher who has Early Childhood Education certification and a teacher associate—an 8:1 student/teacher ratio.
- Children in the classroom are grouped for activities based upon skill level rather than age level. Activities are in small groups, so teachers can meet your child’s needs.
- Letter recognition and letter/sound association is systematically taught using the engaging multi-sensory Letterland curriculum and Handwriting Without Tears.
- Math concepts are systemically taught using developmentally appropriate, hands-on activities.
- Spanish language instruction is provided twice a week for the MWF pm class.
- There are five computers in the classroom available for math activities and center time.
- Parent conferences are held twice a year. Each child’s growth and academic skills are carefully evaluated by the teacher prior to the conference.
- Children entering Kindergarten the following year also receive Curriculum Based Measurements by the Assessment Coordinator ensuring they are well prepared for Kindergarten.
- Our thematic approach to learning is enriched with frequent field trips and guest speakers.
