Early Elementary

Summit’s Early Elementary Education Program (Pre-K through 2nd grade) establishes the foundation for the beginning years of your child’s education. Prior to enrollment, children are tested to determine their academic ability, learning styles and readiness for school. This allows us to determine a suitable curriculum that is paced to meet the developmental needs of each student.

The Early Elementary Classes are filled with exploration, in a relaxed environment where children are given the opportunity to develop socially, emotionally, physically, and intellectually. The aim of this program is to further each child’s growth while developing a sense of personal responsibility and the ability to work with others. Active learning is encouraged and fostered. The curriculum is strong in basic skills and broad in enrichment. Learning is theme based and integration among topic areas strengthens and broadens a child's overall understanding of a subject.

For much of the day, the children are immersed in theme-based learning where topics are covered across subject areas. Children participate in daily small group reading using Orton Gillingham Phonics, handwriting, math instruction using hands-on manipulatives and Saxon Math, and science and social studies with a theme based curriculum utilizing experiments and demonstrations.
